Kamala Harris will serve as just one of four women of color serving there.

If you’re desperately searching for some small sliver of good news this morning, the U.S. Senate has just elected it’s first Indian-American woman. Kamala Harris defeated fellow democrat Loretta Sanchez with a landslide victory in California, and is now one of just four women of color in the senate. She’s the daughter of immigrants from India and Jamaica, and is the second black woman ever to be elected to the Senate. In other words, massive congratulations are in order.
In case you hadn’t guessed, Harris has a strong political background—she was District Attorney of San Francisco, as well as California’s first female, first Indian-American, and first black attorney general.
A nice reminder that women are still breaking through that glass ceiling, one crack at a time.
