TopFaith University, in partnership with Standard Mandate International (SMI) and Thomas Abraham Foundation, hosted the Transition to University Education Summit (TTUES 2024) to sensitise final year SS3 students with the necessary tools and knowledge for a seamless transition to university life.
The one-day summit under the theme “Getting it Right.” aimed to prepare, and motivate students on various aspects of university education, including admission procedures, mental and psychological preparation for challenges, exposure to the university learning system, and career counseling.
Also, the Transition to University Education Summit (TTUES 2024) provided a platform for students to gain invaluable insights and guidance as they prepare for the next phase of their academic journey, setting a solid foundation for their future endeavors.
During his welcome address, Managing Consultant of Standard Mandate International (SMI), Dr. Nelson Ayodele emphasized the importance of effective preparation and goal-setting for transitioning to university life.
He stated, “Building a positive mindset has a significant impact on the mental and physical well-being of students. Those with a positive mindset are more likely to succeed academically and enjoy the university system.”
Dr. Ayodele highlighted common transition challenges such as psychological hurdles, self-doubt, insecurity, and adjusting to new social environments.
He encouraged students to acquire essential skills such as self-regulated learning, personal development, social and emotional learning, and financial management to navigate these challenges successfully.
In his address, the Chairman of TopFaith University, Dr. Emmanuel Abraham, emphasized the summit’s purpose in guiding graduating students towards the right universities and empowering them to build successful careers. He stressed the importance of social corporate responsibility and national growth in organizing such initiatives.
Dr. Abraham’s keynote speech focused on “21st Century Education Skills and Career Choices,” where he underscored the significance of creativity, collaboration, and communication skills in today’s educational landscape.
He urged students to prioritize knowledge and skill acquisition, emphasizing the need to unlearn and relearn for personal and societal development.
Addressing challenges within the Nigerian education system, Dr. Emmanuel called for a shift in mindset towards valuing and contributing to the existing educational infrastructure.
He advocated for consistent and sustainable policies from the Ministry of Education to improve the standard of education across the nation.
