Out of 4697 students graduating from the LadokeAkintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, no fewer than 33 have bagged the topmost grade in the university system.
Prof. AdeniyiGbadegesin, the vice chancellor of the varsity jointly run by Oyo and Osun, stated this in Ogbomoso, Oyo, at a press briefing preceding LAUTECH’s 12th convocation starting Thursday. He said the ceremony will be low-key.
Thanking the two governments, the Vice Chancellor also said who the university was on the verge of a major expansion, so it needs all the funds it can get.
“As I speak to you, work is at an advanced stage at the university’s proposed Institute of Software Engineering. A Memorandum of Understanding between a leading mechanical engineering/automobile company, RT Briscoe, and LAUTECH has been signed to provide hands-on training ground for our students.”
According to Gbadegesin, the institution is ranking well academically, citing the invention of a Computer Science and Engineering graduate, OlaoluAyoola, who designed and cobbled a surveillance drone during his National Youth Service Corps programme in Osun.
On the convocation, he said: “A total of 4,697 first degrees and over 9,000 higher degrees would be awarded during this convocation. The breakdown is: 33 first class; 1,144 second class upper; 2,575 second class lower; 692 third class; 140 nursing students.”
